How to Grow Radish Microgreens

Step 1: Soak 5 grams, or 2 teaspoons, of Daikon, China Rose, Red Rambo or similar variety for 6 – 8 hours (suits a 30 x 35 cm growing tray).

Step 2: Rinse well with cool water. Drain well.

Step 3: Add 2 – 3 tablespoons of organic soil or coir peat to a growing tray. Radish can also be grown hydroponically with hemp growing mats.

Step 4: Add compost and minerals (e.g. vermiculite, perlite or liquid seaweed fertiliser). Level the soil with a block of wood, or the back of a solid tray.

Step 5: Sprinkle seeds evenly over the surface of the soil. Don’t overcrowd your seeds or it make result in mould.

Step 6: Water lightly with a spray mist bottle. Cover with a growing tray and place in a dark, ventilated spot. Water 1 – 2 times a day using a spray mist bottle until your plant is 3 cm height.

Step 7: Uncover your plant and place it in the light. Grow near a sunny window or outside in a shady spot. Cover your tray with shade cloth, or similar, to protect from insects or birds (when growing outdoors). Bring tray indoors at night time. Avoid extreme heat and cold.

Step 8: Water 1 -2 times daily. Keep soil moist. Your radish microgreens are ready to harvest in 6 – 12 days.

Step 9: To harvest, cut the microgreens approximately 1 -2 cm above the soil.

Level of difficulty: Easy.

Days to harvest: Fast growing (6 – 12 days).

Appearance:  Daikon radish has dark green cotyledons and green stems. French Breakfast & China Rose have pink stems and green cotyledons. Red Rambo radish has dark purple cotyledons and stems. Various varieties can be grown together to create a colourful microgreen mix.
